Job Description:

Our client is a subsidiary of a fast growing, billion dollar, technology company that has begun a publishing division and they are looking for the right person to help them build the business model and bring a new way of interacting with books and eBooks.

This publishing division will focus on eBooks, interactive applications and print publications directed towards athletes, coaches and parents of athletes. An interest in and/or experience with this area is ideal, but not a requirement.
This Publisher/Director/Program Manager will be responsible for managing all aspects of defining the market, evaluating technology alternatives, and developing a business plan for eBook enhancements, including pictures, maps, videos, and 2-way collaborative dialogue between an eBook author and reader.
The ideal candidate will be a seasoned eBook technologist/publisher in the Orange County area.
This Person Will:
  • Define market strategy for delivering the technology
  • Be a proven publishing professional that will guide our “non-publishing” clients into a successful publishing path
  • Develop relationships with content providers on developing the medium
  • Have existing contacts in the industry and ideally be well connected to publishers, authors, etc.
  • Wear multiple hats as they will be the lead on growing the publishing division of this company
  • Be expected to act as an Acquisitions Editor, Publisher, Product Manager and Bus Dev person
  • Be expected to grow and create relationships with publishers, authors, etc.
  • Work closely alongside the CEO of the company
  • Help with creating timelines, goals, strategies, etc.
  • Have experience with eBooks, print publications and interactive apps


  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Entrepreneurial outlook and perspectives encouraged
  • Ability to think strategically
  • Outstanding networking skills to work effectively with partners, authors, editors, technologists, and publishers
  • Up to date knowledge of developments in the eBook/epublishing industry
  • Experience working with authors and publishers on eBook workflow development templates, CSS and contributor portal creation
  • Knowledgeable on Kindle, EPUB, and iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch development
  • Experience working with full-service publishing houses and distribution aggregators who partner with authors and publishers to distribute high-quality books in digital and print formats
  • Deep experience with digital text, HTML, XML, and related technologies
  • Knowledgeable in production, marketing and sales of digital titles
  • Proven experience in working with eBook publishing partners such as Penguin Random House, Hachette, Harper Collins, Amazon and self-publishers for Indie authors)
